Lee Lin Chin was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, of Chinese extraction. She was educated in Singapore and, with no formal training in broadcasting, began her career there by joining a pool of announcers on Singapore’s national radio and TV station.

Lee Lin came to Australia in 1980, working as an announcer on ABC radio stations in Newcastle and Darwin.

She began working at SBS in the subtitling unit, providing English subtitles to Chinese language films, before becoming a weekend newsreader in the early 1990s.

Lee Lin’s fashion sense is well-known and in 2003 she began hosting Fashionista, a ten-minute ‘fashion newsflash’ that quickly grew to become a surprise hit.

Lee Lin doesn’t count her penchant for dressing up as a love, more a mania. She says it’s a condition she was born with and hence, it’s second nature.

So, too, is her keen interest in news and social affairs, which she sees as history in the making. Her approach to newsreading is one of curiosity, as that history unfolds.

Lee Lin remains actively involved in the fashion and art world. Privately, the two great loves of her life are The Beatles, and the gentleman from Oxford Mississippi, William Faulkner.
