Keeping Places & Beyond: Building Cultural Futures in NSW is seen as a key initiative in fostering the development, recognition and appreciation of NSW Aboriginal arts and culture through the support of local community hubs. It was structured to enable industry knowledge and experience to be shared, as well as having working group sessions that produced key recommendations to shape the future development of the Aboriginal knowledge and material culture sector in NSW.
It was the first time representatives were drawn together from communities across NSW, with an interest in the future development of Aboriginal cultural spaces.
The Summit brought together leading practitioners and professionals, and provided important sector feedback and suggested directions to government, including related areas of heritage, education, environment, enterprise, archives and local government.
