Going the distance: Planning for sustainability
17 / 09 / 2010 – 17 / 09 / 2010
Going the distance: Planning for sustainability is a back-to-basics workshop that looks at different streams of planning that are crucial for cultural organisations.
Whether you’re applying for funding, or recruiting new volunteers, it’s essential that your organisation has strong, clear plans in place. Going the distance: Planning for sustainability is a back-to-basics workshop which looks at different streams of planning that are crucial for cultural organisations: business planning, strategic planning, and recruitment/succession planning.
The workshop key-note speaker is Karen Griffiths. Karen coordinates the volunteers program at the Historic Houses Trust of NSW, where there are more than 230 volunteers working across 12 museums. Karen will draw on her experience at the HHT and previous work at the Powerhouse Museum to discuss sustainable day to day volunteer management and training.
Other speakers include:
- Judi Hearn, Montreal Goldfields, Bermagui
- Morgan Sant, Lady Denman Heritage Complex, Huskisson
- Jenny Drenkhahn, Eden Killer Whale Museum
- Roger McFarlane, Education Manager, Volunteering ACT
- Michael Huxley, Acting CEO, Museums & Galleries NSW
Program information to be released soon and will include forums and practical breakout sessions. This day is a must for all museums and galleries looking to carry their organisation into the future.
There will also be an opportunity for local museums to attend a briefing session for the 2011 Standards Program, to be held in the South East Region next year. The Standards Program supports community museums through a 12 month process of self review and external feedback. To find out more about the Standards Program click here.
