The goal of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Mapping in the City of Sydney Local Government Area is to map the breadth and depth of documentation across time of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sites of Significance in the City of Sydney LGA. These sites of significance are determined by the actions and events of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

 

Until the 20th Century, this documentation was almost exclusively by non-Indigenous people, which is central to the relevant Intellectual property issues. Non-Indigenous documentation may authenticate and provide precise locations to sites of significance; Indigenous documentation validates sites and breathes life into them because of the Indigenous perspectives.
