Future Spaces Roundtable: 21st century museums
31 / 03 / 2010
Any increasing number of museums and galleries are being developed around the world as iconic destinations, civic spaces and important facilities for the community. Developments occurring locally and internationally present exciting opportunities to create “place making” buildings, and also provide an opportunity to consider strategies for best satisfying environmental and museological needs.
On Wednesday 16 March 2010 Museums & Galleries NSW, the Australian National Maritime Museum and the NSW Government Architect’s Office conducted a roundtable meeting with a range of specialists including architects, planners and arts sector professionals. The meeting kicked off a dialogue about best practice requirements for the planning and development of museum and gallery spaces.
The result of the meeting was the formulation of an advisory group, which will work together with a view to delivering a conference in 2011. We look forward to keeping you informed of developments as they occur, as well as hearing your thoughts and feedback.
