CEO Maisy Stapleton to leave M&G NSW
05 / 05 / 2010
This month Museums & Galleries NSW CEO, Maisy Stapleton will leave the organisation to become Deputy Executive Director of the National Trust of Australia (NSW). Her new appointment was announced recently by Will Holmes à Court, National Trust’s Executive Director .
“I am delighted to welcome Maisy to this new role which focuses on building the Trust’s traditional base, strengthening its expertise in conservation and community participation through its museums and galleries, its membership and events” he said. “As the first CEO of Museums & Galleries NSW, Maisy brings invaluable experience to the National Trust.”
The Board of Museums & Galleries NSW congratulates Maisy on her appointment.
The Chair, Rosalind Strong, said “The Trust is indeed fortunate. Maisy’s unique experience, deep knowledge of the museum and gallery sector, judgement and networks will be enormously helpful to the Trust in her new role.”
“Her years at M&G NSW have seen enormous change in the sector, and growth and diversification of the services provided by the organisation. She has provided exceptional and creative leadership to the organization, shaping its successes and building its strengths, from the ground up.”
“Maisy will be missed by the Board and by staff and by those many individuals and organisations across NSW who benefited from her intellectual leadership and practical problem solving. She has created and sustained productive partnerships across a sector with limited resources but high community support and engagement.”
Maisy acknowledges the support she has had from her board, staff, the museums and galleries sector and from key stakeholders in M&G NSW, the NSW Government through Arts NSW/Communities NSW and the Australian Government through the Australia Council.
“My time at M&G NSW has been invaluable, it has been one of both personal and professional growth. At the same time, I have witnessed increasing development and sophistication in the museum and gallery sector, facilitated to some extent by the work of M&G NSW, its dedicated staff and all our partners. However I am looking forward to new opportunities.”
Ms Stapleton said “I have spent the last 10 years in an advisory and training role with museums and galleries throughout NSW and I am keen to put into practice the many lessons learned from these organisations. I look forward to working with the Trust’s staff and in particular, its strong volunteer workforce, having witnessed the beneficial impact of volunteers in the museum world and the way they can inject heart and soul into diverse projects.”
"I believe that the Trust’s inherent community ownership can be strengthened to enable innovative, new, community-focussed approaches to managing and presenting its collections.”
Ms Stapleton also brings to this position her previous experience as the Trust’s Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager, as CEO of Regional Arts NSW and as Curator of Elizabeth Bay House. She will commence with the Trust in early July.
Recruitment for the next CEO of M&G NSW will commence in mid May.
