Mentorships are a valuable professional development opportunity for emerging and mid-level regional museum and gallery staff to spend two weeks with the team of a metropolitan or regional cultural organisation of their choice. M&G NSW will match successful applicants with an organisation and contribute up to $3,000 of funds provided by the NSW Government through Arts NSW towards costs including travel, accommodation and per diems. Applicants can choose from state, national or smaller, more specialised organisations, depending on their professional needs and goals .This year the following mentorships are available:
- Museum Mentorship: Australian Museum
- Open Museum Mentorship: Choose your own institution
- Gallery Mentorship: National Centre for Creative Learning, MCA
- Open Gallery Mentorship: Choose your own host institution
2013 Fellowship Program
The Fellowship Program has been designed to provide mid-level and senior staff at NSW regional museums and galleries the opportunity to spend two weeks at an international cultural organisation. This year there are two Fellowships available and the NSW Government through Arts NSW will fund each placement up to $6,000.
- International Gallery Fellowship: Dallas Museum of Art
- International Museum Fellowship: National Museum of Korea
Fellowship applicants also have the option to choose their own organisation. M&G NSW staff can provide advice on possible placements and make contact with organisations on your behalf.
2013 Volunteer Placement
This program provides volunteer museum staff with access to the resources and staff of larger or specialised cultural organisations. It is anticipated that skills gained during the placement will be shared with colleagues and applied within their museum.
This is an opportunity to learn new skills or develop a greater understanding of an area of museum practice that meets a specific need or gap within your museum.
The Volunteer Placement Program is open to volunteer staff from volunteer managed and small museums or keeping places in NSW.
Applicants can select their own host organisation/s. M&G NSW is able to provide advice to applicants on suitable host/s and can make contact with relevant organisations on their behalf.
