STUDIO: Australian Painters Photographed by R. Ian Lloyd showcases a broad cross-section of artists from all over Australia working in a variety of studio environments. R. Ian Lloyd, renown for his National Geographic work, examines through large photographic portraits the fascinating detail of the individual artist’s space; whether it be an inner city loft, a kitchen table or the sandy earth of the outback. The exhibition takes us on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the art that we marvel, providing a unique insight into the minds, moods and creative processes of some of the nation’s most acclaimed painters. 

 

The exhibition features 61 Australian artists, including Marion Borgelt, Lucy Culliton, James Gleeson, Margaret Olley, John Olsen, Gloria Petyarre, Luke Sciberras, Tim Storrier, Imants Tillers, and Judy Napangardi Watson.

 

The book and DVD, STUDIO: Australian Painters on the Nature of Creativity photographed by R. Ian Lloyd with text and interviews by John McDonald have both been highly successful and reprinted since the launch in 2007, will accompany the exhibition to provide a complete visual and verbal presentation of the complex blend of motivation and inspiration that sustains these artists.
