GREAT COLLECTIONS includes a plant specimen collected by Sir Joseph Banks in 1770, Captain Cook’s sextant, one of the rare editions of the Nuremburg Chronicles from 1483, a gold washing cradle designed by Edward Hargraves in 1851, an Arthur Streeton painting, documents from both Miles Franklin and Patrick White, Captain Moonlite’s death mask, along with major contemporary artworks.
GREAT COLLECTIONS is enthusiastically supported by The Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Museum, Botanic Gardens Trust, Historic Houses Trust of NSW, Museum of Contemporary Art, Powerhouse Museum, State Library of NSW and State Records NSW showing significant objects that are representative of Australia’s vibrant history and identity. For the first and probably only time, these Museum and Gallery holdings are drawn together in an exhibition that illustrates our psyche, records our development, provides insight into our national spirit and inspires us for the future.
GREAT COLLECTIONS supports broad curriculum goals with the potential to inspire your students and assist develop a range of critical thinking skills and literacies. The exhibition is supported by in-depth teacher and student resources, available online, targeting these syllabus areas:
