Councillor Allan Smith grew up in Dubbo and was educated at Dubbo High School. He worked in retail management and was a union official for many years.
Allan Smith was first elected as a Councillor in 1991, became Deputy Mayor in 1995 and Mayor in 2000 until 2002, he was then re-elected as Mayor in 2004 to 2007, and has been re-elected again in 2009.
He is dedicated to the growth of Dubbo and maintaining a high quality of life for Dubbo residents. As Mayor of Dubbo his aim has always been to promote Dubbo as an attractive tourist destination and the best regional City in which to live and do business.
Councillor Smith is currently involved with the following organisations and committees:
- Zoological Parks Board of NSW
- Statecover Mutual
- Regional Development Australia
- Executive of the Local Government Association
- Economic Committee of the Local Government and Shires Association
- Chairman of the Roads and Transport Advisory Council of NSW
- IPWEA’s Roads Directorate
- New South Wales Rural Fire Service Advisory Council
- The New South Wales Bushfire Coordination Committee
- NSW Fire Brigades Advisory Council
- Museums and Galleries NSW
Councillor Smith contributes his in depth knowledge of Local Government and of the Local Government and Shires Association and his recent experience in establishing major regional cultural centres.
